(Washington, D.C.) – Today, community advocate and Trinidad resident, Salvador Sauceda-Guzman declared his candidacy for the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) Single-Member District (SMD) 5D02. Sauceda-Guzman is a DMV-native committed to racial and social justice, a conviction developed while raised in an immigrant household and later reinforced through his professional work in Washington, D.C. He has served on several executive boards for several non-profit organizations, helped raise thousands of dollars for the Latin American Youth Center of Washington, D.C. and devotes his time as a High Achievement Mentor at Brookland Middle School. Sauceda-Guzman continues to be an actively engaged member of his community and through his involvement has witnessed firsthand the obstacles and challenges facing his neighborhood.

“The months and years ahead will be challenging, but we must be unrelenting in our fight for equity and justice. I’m running for ANC SMD 5D02 to ensure the needs of our community are not set aside as we continue to battle COVID-19 and move to recovery. This is an opportunity to remake our country and you can be assured that we will be at the table,” – said Salvador Sauceda-Guzman.

The ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic and global recession have exacerbated and brought renewed attention to longstanding systemic inequities that disproportionately impact Black Americans and People of Color. It is imperative that elected officials – with influence over policy and community outcomes – uplift the voices of those most marginalized and center their needs in the policy-making process. Sauceda-Guzman is running to do just that, advocate for his community and lead with an unapologetic commitment to racial and social justice.
